Many people think that the best place to store your toothbrush is on the bathroom counter, but it actually can be one of the worst places! Tiny particles drift through the air and land on surfaces each time you flush the toilet. The bristles become a haven for mildew and bacteria (yuck!). You should store toothbrushes in covered holders or in a cabinet.
Don’t leave your makeup on the countertops because the humidity is terrible for cosmetics. Powders can get cakey, mascaras and eyeliners can grow bacteria faster, and creams and foundations can break down or expire faster. Store these items in a drawer or vanity outside the bathroom.
Nobody wants their favorite jewelry or small accessories to be ruined, which is why it’s vital to keep them out of your bathroom space. Moisture in the air can dull, tarnish, or rust metals. A jewelry dish or box kept in the bedroom is a safer way to store these items.
Keep your prescriptions (or any medication), in a cool, dry place. Heat and humidity can weaken the active ingredients in your medications, making them less effective and even unsafe.
It may seem logical to store your favorite fragrances in the bathroom; however, the heat and light of the bathroom can quickly deteriorate your perfumes. The scent can fade, sour, or change completely.
Your bathroom is not a good place to store towels and linens. If your towels smell musty, even after washing, they may be absorbing extra moisture in the bathroom. Store your extra towels in a separate linen closet.
